Indian mounds and Beltane
Last weekend was Beltane; holiday for many pagans around the world. It was an absolutely beautiful weekend and I enjoyed it with friends. Communing and laughter was abundant in our small circle of folks. Oh, and the food!!! All of my favorites I ate so much I was pretty miserable at one point with a food and water baby. While visiting I also was able to walk around ancient Indian habitats in the beautiful town of Oxford, AL. They have recreated an ancient mound that was actually tore down at some point. Not sure why someone would feel the need to destroy archeological history, but there ya have it. The town has erected a beautiful park and rebuilt the mound. Visiting the mound and grounds enhanced the energy to my trip for the weekend.
Beltane is a Gaelic Seasonal Festival that is celebrated on May 1st. May Day if you will, but has ancient roots from the Isle of Ireland. Beltane means "bright fire" in Gaelic and is associated with a large bon fire and communing of friends near and far. You have probably heard along the lines of "The lusty month of may" somewhere perhaps. Ha ha.
Great feasting takes place and gathering of friends. With lots of high energy and excitement that nicer weather is here to get out. The energy this time of year is high and exciting with feelings of possibilities for journeys and many intentions back at Imbolc may manifest at this time. Either way, it's just a beautiful time of year in-between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. Beltane is probably one of my favorites along with Samhain celebrations.
During the lockdown I watched the Bonfire festival in England online live since there were was no gathering of friends at the time. BOnFire2021 – Beltane Online Fire Festival – Beltane Fire Society
That is the link for the festival that posts online to watch. Quite interesting and looks like they all have a good time recreating stories of the Green God and Goddess. Anyhoodles, thought I would share that holiday with you all. It's time for fee fees and meditation to start my day. <3
